The Chronicle of Higher Education reports that a University of Michigan professor has used some aspects of gaming to develop GradeCraft, a learning management system that allows instructors to organize their courses in a “gameful” way. In courses designed through GradeCraft, students can choose their own paths through a course, selecting the assignments that interest and challenge them. A tool called the “grade predictor” helps manage a personalized system allowing students to figure out what they need to do to reach the goals they set for themselves in the course. The project for this new system will be receiving a 1.88 million dollar grant as part of the initiative.
